Item:192727611398Up for auction is a rare copy of Pauli Iovii Novocomensis Episcopi Nucerini Historiarum printed in 1567. The volume measures 6 x 4.5 inches and written in Latin. I counted 911 pages plus index the cover boards are leather over wood board with hand tooled renaissance designs. This volume also includes intriguing initials ( AMV) embossed on the from cover and the year 1569 at the lower portion of the cover. There is a contemporary inscription in French inside the front paper. Inside the volume are three fairly large early manuscript fragments( 1.5 inch) either from the 15th,or 16th century that are used for binding material. This volume appears to be complete with the title paged, end papers and preface I only skimmed through the interior pages.at least 10 sheets have come lose from the binding the remainder of the book is still bound. The spine is in poor condition (see photos for details) leather is missing other sections just holding on The cover boards are shaken but holding on very fragile. The remainder of a brass clasp is evident on the front cover board also an exlibris stamp the name E.W. Blau on the front end paper. FYI: This week I will list a small collection of antique books handwritten manuscripts, and documents from the late 15th to the 17th century.
